ST 30 SE THORNCOMBE WHEELHOUSE LANE
3/115 Forde Grange, and
Two attached cottages
GV II
Former Farmhouse. C16 or earlier core, with C17 and later alterations. Rubble
walls with stone quoins and stone copings to gable-ends. Slate roof with
2 brick stacks at ridge. 1½ storeys. Seven window-range: casements with
wooden frames and glazing-bars. Six half-dormers with pitched slate roofs
and bargeboards, C19. Straight joint between windows 4 and 5 from left.
Porch towards left hand with elliptical-headed arch key and imposts, all of
stone. Interior (right hand): excellent studded plank door with strap-hinges,
C16 or C17. Plastered-over crucks (left hand). Ceiling beams, heavily
moulded on vertical sides and chamfered off. Datestone over blocked fireplace:
"Esq F.G. 1749" 3 sets of crucks. Source: R.C.H.M. Dorset I, p. 247(6).
