8/16 The Cottage and
front area railings

G.V. II

Single house, now hotel, circa C17. Rendered walls. Thatch roof with
gable ends and decorative block-ridging. 3 rendered stacks: at left
hand gable, backing on to cross-passage,at right hand gable. 2 storeys.
3 windows, ground floor with canted bay window with hipped thatch roof
over, C19 sashes. French window at right hand, C20; first floor,
wooden sliding-sashes with thin glazing bars. Front door, left of centre,
wooden with 2 glass panels, C20. The house is slate-hung on the east
elevation with a double-pointed window.

Cast iron railings to street with broken-off heads and tall urns at the
main bay-divisions, all on a sleeper wall. "RCHM, Dorset I", p 89 (8).
