ST 60 SW BATCOMBE Galpin's Farmhouse
Detached Farmhouse. Early C17, or earlier. Rubble and chalk-
block walls with some cob. Thatch roof, with gable ends. Brick
stacks at right hand gable and on ridge, backing onto relict cross-
passage, and on left hand gable. 1½ storeys. Three windows
evidence of 2-light wooden casements to ground, and two eyebrow
dormers (2-light casements). Front door position, right of centre,
(plank). Back wall currently much broken down. Interior: one
cruck-truss extant. Central (Hall) fireplace with projecting
bread oven (from front wall) with pentice tile roof. Further
bread oven in beside north fireplace. Part-derelict, with Listed
Building Consent approved for consolidation, (November 1984).
