Detached Inn. Dated 1599, with C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed rubble stone
walls. Projecting stone bench to front stack. Plain clay-tile roofs with gable
ends. Roman tile roof at left hand end. Stone gable-coping at left hand and
with apex-block, and to front stacks embrasure. Brick stacks on inner left hand
gable, on front stack gable, and on right hand gable. Two storeys and attics.
Main range at centre, 4 windows, 2- and 3-light wood casements with glazing bars,
wood cills and lintels. C19 and C20 to right of front stack. Blocking towards
left end. Front entrance immediately left of front stack, plank door with strap-
hinges. Concrete lintel over. Range butted on at left hand end, 1½ storeys.
2 windows, 3-light and 2-light wood casements with glazing bars. Wood cills
and lintels. Door, left of centre, plank with strap-hinges. The rear of the
premises has pentice-roofed outhouses. Interior: deep-chamfered ceiling beams,
C17. Open fireplaces, left hand end, chamfered wood lintel and rebuilt stone
jambs. Front fireplace, also with rebuilt jambs. The attached, restored range
at east end is not of special interest. (RCHM, Dorset I, p 102(9).
