Large attached house, formerly two. Early C18, or late C17, with C16 roof
construction. Dressed stone walls. Thatch roof, with gable ends and stone
gable-copings. Brick stacks, C20 at left hand gable, C20 at right hand ridge,
C18 at right gable end. Two storeys and dormers. 5 windows, ground floor:
window-door-window-door-window. Square-section stone mullions, beaded, 3-light
to ground floor; 2-light, with 3-light in the end bays to first floor, C18.
Iron casements with lead lights, C18 or C19. Front doorways, in bays 2 and 4,
with stone architraves, pulvinated friezes and large moulded cornices. Plank-
and-muntin door with lead lights, C20 (left). Plank door (stable-type), C20.
Interior: flagstone floors. Fireplace in left hand end wall has stone jambs,
straight-chamfered, with stepped stops, cambered wood lintel re-set. Elliptical
arch to side of fireplace. First floor centre front room has plastered ceiling
with 4 raised plasterwork rosettes (one, the fifth, missing). Panelled C18,
window seats. Roof-construction: 3 bays of smoke-blackened principals with
2 sets of through purlins and wind-bracing. Mortices for collars, collars gone.
Diagonal ridge-piece, C16. Rear range has C17 construction with butted through-
purlins.
