26.1.56 Whitcombe Farmhouse)

GV II

Farmhouse, extended at both ends and raised. Early C18 with
much C19 refenestration and extension. Coursed and squared
rubble walls, with brick dressings and brick quoins. Clay tile roof
with stone slates at eaves, hipped at both ends. Brick stacks
at left hip apex, ridge left of centre, and on ridge towards
right hip apex. 2 storeys. 5 windows to ground floor, irregular
fenestration, sashes with glazing bars, wood cills, cambered brick arches
and concrete lintels. Two French windows, right of centre, with
glazing bars, C20. Blocked doorway at oentre with brick dressings,
former front door position. Front door is now situated in a C20
porch extension to south end wall, rubble stone and brick quoins.
Door has 6 fielded panels, C20 with bracketed stone canopy over, C20.
Continuous single storey outshut at rear of house, under a tile roof.
Back door is 6 panelled, C20. Interior: mid chamfered ceiling beams.
Outbuilding attached at north end, C19, rubble and brick walls with a
clay tile roof over. Brick stack. French window to garden, C20,
and 2 light casement to yard. (R.C.H.M. Dorset II, p.376 (2)).
