Country House. Mid-C18, extended each end probably in early C19. Brick
walls, low-pitched hipped slate roof with dentil cornice. One plastered and
one brick stack in centre. 2 storeys attic and basement. Main (north) front
has a 6-panel raised panelled door with semi-circular ornamental fanlight,
approached by a flight of moulded stone steps. Classical surround to door,
with Tuscan columns supporting an open pediment with modillion blocks. Left
of door, 2 stone mullioned basement windows. Stone band course at ground floor
level. Raised band course under first floor windows. Raised brick quoins at
ends of centre block. Ground floor has 4 sashes with glazing bars under
gauged brick arches. 5 similar, shorter windows on first floor. Attic has
3 flat-roofed dormers with casements with lead lights. Flanking blocks to
right and left have moulded string courses at first floor level. Each has
one sash with glazing bars on first floor. Right block has door with fanlight
on ground floor. Lean-to extension to right of right block. In rear elevation,
several stone mullioned windows, of flat mullion type. Internally, dining room
has moulded plaster ceiling and modillion cornice. Pedimented over-doors.
Fireplace surround flanked by Tuscan columns supporting entablature. Overmantel
has mirror with eased architrave, flanked by Tuscan columns supporting broken
curved pediment. Shallow recesses each side of chimney breast, framed by Tuscan
columns supporting entablature with pulvinated frieze; segmental moulded arches
to recesses, with projecting keystones. Entrance hall has modillion cornice.
Flat over-doors with modillion cornices. Cut string stair with spandril
brackets, turned balusters and wreathed handrail. Present kitchen has semi-
circular recesses each side of fireplace, with moulded arches. C18 fireplace
