7/26 Chetnole Farm House

Detached farmhouse. Late C16, part rebuilt in late C17. Probably originally
a long-house - the byre rebuilt as a kitchen. Rubble stone walls, roof of
northern section slated. Southern section - the rebuilt byre - thatched. One
plastered stack left of entry, one at right end. One storey and attic. Now
of 3 room and cross-passage plan. C20 stone porch with gabled tiled roof,
has ledged door with side-lights. Inner door has 4-centred stone arch with
carved head over. In northern - older section, left of door, ground floor
has 2 casements with moulded timber frames and lead lights. Attic has 3
casements with lead lights in a large hipped dormer. In south section, ground
floor has 2 casements with lead lights. Attic has a double dormer with 2
casements with lead lights. C20 single-storey extension at right end, of stone,
with tiled roof, and 3 casements with lead lights. 2-storeyed rear extension
with twin gables, and a later single-storey lean-to extension. Internally, the
late C16 hall has a large fireplace with moulded stone surround and very deep
lintel. Deeply chamfered intersecting ceiling beams. 4-centred arched doorway
Into cross-passage, with early ledged door. Plank and muntin partition between
hall and inner roof, with 4-centred arched doorway and early ledged door. Kitchen
has large open fireplace with deep timber lintel and bread oven. One exposed
