Now two cottages but probably originally one house, of two builds. No 542,
late C16 early C17. May have originated as an open-hall house. Timber-
framed walls, infilled partly with wattle and daut, partly with brick.
Thatched roof, brick stack with moulded cap. Originally of two room plan with
end stack and lobby entrance adjoining this. One storey and attic. Ledged
door under timber gabled hood with tiled roof. Ground floor has two casement
windows with lead lights. Attic has one dormer with original oriel window
with moulded mullions and lead lights.
Internally, main ground floor room has large open fireplace with bread oven -
part built up. Both rooms have deeply chamfered ceiling beams. Main bedroom
has stop-chamfered ceiling beam.
No 543 was probably an addition to No 542 C18 early C19. Brick walls, thatched
roof, brick stack shared with No 542. One storey and attic. Later single-
storey lean-to at rear. Ground floor has one casement window with glazing bars.
Attic lit by window in gable wall. Main ground floor room has chamfered ceiling
beams.
