Description

1.
5193 PAMPHILL COWGROVE ROAD
(South Side)
Lower Dairy Cottage
ST 90 SE 3/86 21.12.82
II GV
2.
Early C17. At right angles to road. Timber-framed walls with brick infil,
thatched roof, brick stack. One storey and attic.
On east side, section nearest the road has the ground floor wall recessed -
not a true jetty as main posts rise from ground level to eaves, forming a
covered way. Internal timber details suggest that this feature is original.
This covered way extended to south by a later added pentice under catslide
roof. Recessed section contains entrance door and two casement windows.
Ledged door and blocked window in rear section. Attic has two dormers with
centre glazing bars - one recessed into catslide roof. Gable end to road,
half-hipped, has one casement window with glazing bars on each floor. Some
exposed chamfered ceiling beams. A building of unusual form, may be of open-
hall origin.
RCHM Monument 67.
