Description

MOOR CRICHEL
SU 00 NW

9/61 Loverley Mill and
Mill House

II

Mill and mill house dated WO 1740, house probably early C19. Brick walls
with slate roof. End brick stacks to house. Some ashlar dressings.
2 storeys, house 3 bay, mill irregular fenestration. Most openings under
segmental brick heads. House has 2-light casements with horizontal glazing
bars to the upper floor and full glazing bars below. Central gabled, glazed
timber porch. Mill has round arch with dated keystone of tail race outlet.

Mill originally contained 2 undershot or low breast-shot wheels. These were
replaced by a turbine driving a "Harefield" pump in the early C20. This
pump supplied water to Moor Crichel House (qv). (Notes: Dorset Watermills
Surrey). (RCHM, Dorset, vol V, p 44, no. 6).
