Description

CORFE MULLEN
SY 99 NE
BROG STREET
10/15
Hart's Cottage
- II
Cottage. Early C17, with C18 changes, and early C19 features and
extensions. Cob walls. Half-hipped thatch roof, eyebrow dormer, extended
to a lower eaves on posts at the rear. The building has a through
passageway separating the original two rooms, and a massive fireplace (with
bread oven) at the former east gable, now masked by a C19 store. Irregular
south front of one storey and attic, one above three windows. A C19 sash is
west of the doorway, other windows being casements, including a tiny light
which lit the former staircase (adjoining the chimney breast); the two
larger windows have hoods on decorative brackets. Boarded door beneath a
gabled hood, on similar decorative brackets. At the rear there are two
original small casements and a doorway with a massive chamfered frame. The
interior is largely original, with old partitions marking the passageway.
