STURMINSTER MARSHALL
SY 99 NW CHARBOROUGH PARK
9/57 East Almer Farmhouse
- II
House, now two dwellings. C15, c1600, c1700, with mid C19 extensions.
Walls of flint and limestone, partly of chequered pattern and also of
alternate bands, with large quoins, north west extension (late C17) of
ironstone rubble, some altered sections of brickwork and brickwork to the
mid C19 outshots (part cement-rendered). Tile roof, with stone slates to
the lower courses, slate above one outshot. Late medieval hall, with two
storeyed south end, with central staircse wing (late C16) on the north east
side, and north west extension (late C17); the walling is of stone but the
irregular elevations have altered features, and include several stone window
surrounds, with hood-moulds but few surviving mullions. A massive chimney
in the middle of the long south west elevation has been cut through, to form
a porch. Outshots occur all along the north east side and contain entrances

old hall is of arch-braced trussed rafter construction, masked by a flat
ceiling. RCHM
