SZ 0378 NW 5/75
Now incorporates an additional - formerly separate building on the west - facing
Taunton Road. Original central section probably C18. Sections to east and west
of this early C19. Central section has rendered walls and Purbeck Stone roof. Two
storeys. Double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. Two canted bay windows on the
ground floor on either side of the entrance door. One first floor window has an
ornamental cast iron balcony. Eastern section has rendered walls and slate roof.
Three storeys. Double-hung sash windows. One - probably inserted - canted bay
window to the first floor. Round-headed doorway. Western section has rendered walls
and Purbeck Stone roof. Two storeys. Double-hung sash windows with glazing bars.
To the rear of this wing, along Taunton Road, the car park. enclosed by high Purbeck
Stone walls, appears to be the site of demolished cottages. Stone paved forecourt in
front of the building, enclosed by stone bollards and iron rails. RCHM Monument 36
