Formerly listed as "Grotto at Charborough House". Ice House with added
ornamental plastered facade. Ice House C18, facade mid C19. This has a
curved gable in Flemish style, with moulded capping. Round-headed arch
with projecting voussoirs. At each end of the facade a pier, supporting a
moulded cap, and urn. Surmounting the centre gable a statue of Mercury,
on a globe. In the gable an inscribed tablet, renewed in the C20, commem-
orating the Revolution of 1688 and accession of William of Orange. Behind
the facade a vaulted passage leads to the underground ice house, with a
studded door. RCHM Monument 3.
