Tonerspuddle Farm
House. (Formerly
listed as Turners
Puddle Farm House)

II

Farm house. The earliest part - the west range, dated C16 by RCHM - possibly formed
part of a larger building. The south end of this range extended eastwards in C17 -
forming a symmetrical south front. The angle between these two ranges infilled in
C19 and rebuilt c1959.
Two storeys and attics. Walls of original and C17 ranges partly of brick, partly
rendered, on stone bases. Slate roof with stone eaves courses. Brick stacks.
Modern north-east block has brick walls on stone base, and flat roof with parapet.
Main south elevation has rendered walls. Modern central porch of concrete blocks
with tiled roof, and modern glazed door. Ground floor has two 2-light stone
mullioned windows with lead lights. First floor has three casement windows with
glazing bars. Slight break in wall west of porch indicates change of build.
West elevation has walls partly of brick, partly rendered. Door opening with
elliptical ironstone arch - appears C17 but may be re-set. Ground floor has two
casement windows with glazing bars. First floor has three casement windows - one
with lead lights, one with cast iron lights, one with timber glazing.
Interior of original wing much altered. Ground floor room at north end has two
deep-chamfered ceiling beams. Room at south end, first floor, has a stone fireplace
with 4-centred arch. Roof structure over original wing of simple collar beam form.
RCHM Monument 2.
