SZ 08 NW STUDLAND BROWNSEA ISLAND

1/68 East Cottage and West Cottage

GV II

Pair of cottages - formerly school and school house. Early-mid C19. Brick
walls, part plastered, slate roof with battlemented gables. Brick end stacks.
2 storeys. East Cottage has central battlemented porch. Ground floor has
2 canted timber bay windows with glazing bars. On first floor, a sash window
with glazing bars flanked by C20 casements (probably replacing sashes). Shallow
central gable with moulded bargeboard. West Cottage, on left, has flat roof
with battlemented parapet. Ground floor has 2 bay windows as in East Cottage.
First floor has 2 small segmental-headed windows with glazing bars. Part of
an important group on the harbour frontage. A National Trust property.
