Description

KIMBLESWORTH AND PLAWSWORTH HOLMHILL LANE
NZ 24 NE
(East side, off)
7/41 Former threshing
barn and 2 gingangs
40 metres east of
Harbour House
II

Farmbuildings now used as loose-boxes and storage. Probably late C18 threshing
barn with early C19 gingang on north and gingang dated 1831 on east. Coursed
and squared rubble; pantiled roofs.

2-storey, 6-bay barn has tooled quoins. Altered openings including several
blocked first-floor breathers. Steeply-pitched roof has raised verges with
reverse-stepped gables. Square-plan gingang on north: openings in west and
north with rectangular piers; some later brick infill; roof hipped over north
wall. Similar gingang on east: dated stone plaque on east wall; blocked
openings; large C20 opening in south wall; roof hipped over east wall; C20
lean-to addition on north is not of special interest.

Barn has 5 roof trusses with halved-and-pegged principals and double collars
carrying 2 tiers of purlins.
