Grey Lodge

GV II

Villa, now 2 separate houses. Early C19 incorporating early C18 house in rear
wing. Incised stucco with plinth and painted ashlar dressings; rear wall of
wing English garden wall bond brick (5 and one); Welsh slate roof with rendered
chimneys and yellow pots. Main elevation: 2 storeys, 3 and 4 bays; giant
pilasters frame end bays; sash windows have glazing bars and projecting stone
sills. Left return entrance to Grey Lodge has bracketed hood; right return
has principal entrance at right in Ionic porch, and 2-storey square projecting
bay at left under hipped roof. Low-pitched hipped roof has ridge chimneys
with octagonal pots. Rear wing has 16-pane sashes.

Interior: original 6-panel doors and architraves, and corniced chimney-pieces,
throughout; entrance loggia has tiled floor and arcaded windows; re-used early
C18 stair of one long flight and long landing balustrade has panelled closed
string, moulded panelled handrail on turned balusters, square newels with half-
balusters. Rear wing has moulded beams in kitchen.
