Farmhouse and farmbuildings. Dated 1685 on door lintel, major alterations c.1860,
restored 1983-5. Squared rubble. Graduated slate roofs and stone chimney
stacks. Linear plan: hearth-passage house flanked by attached farmbuildings
forming a continuous 2-storey front.
House, of 4 irregular bays, has low plinth, flush quoins and straight joints at
junction with farmbuildings. 4-panel door, in narrow moulded stone doorway, in
third bay. Doorway lintel inscribed: IDM 1685 (John and Mary Dent). Replaced
4-pane sashes, in mid C19 openings, with flush lintels and sills. Eaves raised
c.1860.
Byre and loft, to left, has flush quoins; boarded door with boarded window to
right and similar opening above. Barn to right has flush quoins: 2 Dutch doors
and a boarded window to left; 3 breathers and 2 openings above; right-end
opening has 2-leaf boarded shutters.
Continuous low-pitched roof with coped gables. 2 rebuilt ridge stacks, above
house section, with top bands and water tables.
House has low 2-storey rear outshut, with scattered 12-pane sashes, and a
semicircular-plan stair turret.
Modernised interior retains large square-headed fireplace in the former parlour.
Replaced 2-flight dogleg staircase in stair turret.
Lean-to addition to left return not of special interest. Farmbuildings are
included for group value.
