Hotel. Dated 1733 on doorway frieze, with C19 rear additions. Squared sandstone
rubble, stone-flagged roofs and stone chimneys. Reversed U-plan: long single-
storey rear wing to left; shorter 2-storey rear wing to right; shallow outshut
between wings.

3 storeys, 4 irregular bays with flush quoins. Doorway in bay 2 has architrave,
frieze inscribed IHM 1733 and cornice. Boarded door with strap hinges and
C18 lock plate. Mainly replaced 12-pane sashes with flat-arched lintels and
flush sills. Roof has coped gables and shaped kneelers. End stacks and one
ridge stack with cornices and water tables.

Rear outshut and wings have replaced sashes. Single-storey wing has a tall
lateral chimney.

Late C20 addition to left return not of special interest.

Historical note: a footpath, with 1837. VR. 1897 picked out in dark cobbles,
runs in front of the hotel forecourt and commemorates Queen Victoria's Diamond
Jubilee.
