north of St.
19.1.52 Lawrence's Chapel

GV II*


Dovecote, probably late medieval. Roughly-coursed rubble with some cut
dressings. Circular, c. 5.0 metres internal diameter. Exterior: beehive
profile with 3 alighting bands; small doorway facing north-west seems to be
enlargement of chamfered window or hatch; top ruinous. Interior: 13 tiers of
stone nesting boxes with shelves below.

One of the distinctive Tees Valley dovecotes, c.f. Gainford Hall, Caldwell and
Headlam.
