17 metres south
of Church of
St. Michael


Floor stone, 1503. Blue limestone. Rectangular slab with incised chalice
below worn inscription, carved in relief within a sunk panel:

Hic Requiescat Thomas Message quondam rector huius ecclesiae
qui obiit ... Anno MDIII Cuius animae propietur deus

Thomas Message is recorded as being rector of Barningham in 1488. The slab
may be an in-situ remnant of the flooring of the medieval church demolished
in 1816.
