Former parish church. Probably C13, remodelled in C18; largely demolished
1833 when new church (q.v.) was built. Squared rubble with cut quoins and
dressings. The church consisted of nave, chancel and north vestry; all that
survives are the east gable and more ruinous side walls of the chancel.

East end shows remains of two narrow square-headed lights in chamfered
surrounds, replaced by C18 window with pointed arch; traces of smaller square-
headed light in gable. South wall shows one chamfered jamb of a medieval
window, lower jambs of a blocked door, and remains of low-side window;
north wall has jambs of vestry door, probably C18.

Interior: chamfered band below east windows; internal lintels of older windows,
and sill of gable light, are re-used cross slabs. Piscina on south with
pointed arch and broken bowl; bowl of another set in blocking of south door.
Recess,perhaps aumbry, on north.

In romantic setting by River Greta; the subject of paintings by Turner and
others.

In poor condition and deteriorating at time of survey.
