Description

NZ 0814 ROKEBY ROKEBY PARK

13/157 Group of tombstones
c.50 metres north-
west of Dairy Bridge

GV II

Tombstones of various dates. Cut stone. The most important is a recumbent
coped slab, probably C12, with an expanded-arm cross on one face and a pair
of shears on the other. A few metres to the west is a small group of
headstones, mostly broken or fallen, of C17 and early C18 date; few are
legible.

The group is included for historical interest in marking the site of the
medieval church of Rokeby, replaced by the present St. Mary's Church (q.v.)
in the mid C18.
