23/67 Dowson tomb circa 3
metres South of
Baptist Chapel
Headstone. 1777 to George Dowson and to his son Joseph died 1796. Sandstone
slab c. one metre high with shaped top and well-cut inscription, that to
George ending'Aged 47 years'flanked by scrolls. Second inscription 'In Memory
of Joseph Dowson of Malan (Mayland) whose death was occasioned by the
breaking of a Grindstone at Bedburn Mill May 6 1796 aged 45 years.' Removed to
side of graveyard. Included for historical interest.
