House, circa 1905 for J.W. Fogg-Elliot of Elvet Hill, Durham City. Coursed
sandstone rubble, pebbledashed in places, with brick dressings. Roof of small
Lakeland slates. North (entrance) front 2 storeys and attic, 5 bays, very
irregular. Projecting gabled left bay; right bay blank but for large stack,
offset above eaves. Central flat-gabled porch, with 2 arched openings, the
right to half-glazed door. All windows small-paned casements, mostly in
pebbledashed-lined recesses, the wider ones behind tapered shafts: 5-light
above door and 2-light in right bay, the ground-floor recess behind paired
round arches. Segmental and round gauged brick arches to taller windows in
projecting left bay, which has corbelled chimney to left and roof extended
beyond. Eaves corbel table; low, central roof gable with 2-light dormer.
Wide stack at junction with wing. Returns show 2-storey bows with large
4-light windows on both floors. Back entrance on left return, and other
windows similar to front. Symmetrical garden front of 3 wide bays. Similar
window treatment: groups of 3 in centre bay and 2 in outer bays; round-arched
recesses on ground floor. M-shaped central roof gable, with twin 2-light
windows, flanked by plain stacks.

Flat-coped wall from east return to l-storey outbuilding with pent pantiled
roof swept out over paired garage doors in right section; 2 boarded doors and
2 small windows.
