Country house, now an hotel (shown on OS map as a Maternity Home). Mid C18,
possibly incorporating an older core, altered in early C20. Pebble-dashed
masonry and brick; Welsh slate roofs with rebuilt brick chimneys. L-plan with
rear wing to right. 2 storeys plus attic, 5 bays, with flanking 2-storey,
one-bay wings. Central, 3-bay later, part-glazed porch has 4 Roman Doric columns,
entablature and double doors with 3-pane side lights. 2-panel, part-glazed inner
double doors, under segmental fanlight, with 3-pane side lights and flanking,
elongated 12-pane sashes. Front has mainly replaced 12-pane sashes, first-floor
band and dentilled eaves cornice. Low-pitched hipped roof has 2 dormers, under
segmental pediments, and 2 ridge chimneys. Set-back wings have semi-octagonal
returns, first-floor band and mainly replaced 12-pane sashes; low-pitched roof
hipped over returns. 2-storey, 11-bay rear wing has 2-pane sashes to ground floor,
first-floor band and replaced 12-pane sashes above; roof has 5 ridge chimneys.
Interior remodelled in early C20. Additions to left rear and detached stable
block not of special interest.
