5/71 Ice-house circa
50 metres west
of Whitworth Hall
GV II

Ice-house. Probably early C19. Sandstone rubble and brick. Set in platform
on which Whitworth House is built. Rubble retaining walls flank approach and
slope down to lower ground level in front of ice-house. Brick jambs and
rendered lintel to empty doorway. Short passage to chamber with wide segmental
brick vault.

Adapted as air-raid shelter in World War II.
