Built in l807 by Samuel Courtauld, when he moved from Pebmarsh and established
his silk mills in Braintree. Modern mills now extend over larger area and this
is the only remaining original building. 3 storey weatherboarded, roofs in
grey slate, rows of windows with small glazing bars. Stands astride the river
stream. Originally had a beam engine. Forms picturesque group with Mill House.
