TL 74 SE BELCHAMP OTTEN SEWELLS LANE

cartlodge approx
15 metres North

Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Late C16 early C17. Timber framed and weatherboarded. Gabled asbestos
clad roof, with central gabled midstrey. 4 aisled bays. Side purlin roof
construction with some jowled braces to tie beams. Herringbone patterned brick
threshing floor. Halved and bladed scarf to top plates. The attached C17
Cartlodge is of 4 bays, of similar materials with ridge board roof construction
and is included for group value. Jowled braces to tie beams are very unusual in
Essex.
