Manor house, C16 and later. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade
red clay tiles. H-plan consisting of 2-bay hall range aligned approx. N-S with
axial chimney stack at S end, 3-bay S crosswing with chimney stack to E, C16,
corma and N crosswing, probably C18. Aspect W. Extension to rear of S
crosswing, C16. Extension to rear of hall range, C18. Single-storey extension
to S, C19. 2 storeys and cellar. Front elevation of stucco marked to imitate
stone blocks. Central half-glazed door with marginal lights in simple early C19
doorcase with shallow hood. 2 double-hung early C19 sash windows of 16 lights.
First floor, 3 early C19 double-hung sash windows of 12 lights. Some crown
glass. In hall range, interior contains plain-chamfered axial beam and large
wood-burning hearth converted to cupboard. In S crosswing, 2 moulded binding
beams, and above first floor, cambered early C17 inserted ceiling, beams plain-
chamfered with lamb's tongue stops. Crownpost roof over S wing, collars mostly
present but crownposts and collar-purlin missing. Remainder of roof not
examined. Rear extension to S wing has exposed joists of horizontal section,
jowled posts, cambered tiebeams with arched braces, blocked unglazed window with
4 diamond mullions in situ on N side of first floor, original rebated
floorboards, traces of original pargetting now enclosed in C18 extenson to N.
