Aisled barn, C16, altered in C20. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with
corrugated iron. 4 bays aligned approximately NE-SW with entrances on both
sides in second bay from SW end. Jowled posts, cambered tiebeams, arched braces
to tiebeams and arcade plates. Face-halved scarfs bladed at one end, housed at
the other end (Hewett 1980, Fig. 269). Heavy studs. In end walls, curved
braces trenched into outside of studs. In aisles, 2 curved raking shores from
each arcade post, to aisle tie and to sill respectively. Roof above tiebeam
level rebuilt in C20 for lower pitch of corrugated iron, and side walls raised
to meet it. There are close constructional similarities with an aisled barn at
Wiggens Farm. (qv)
