Aisled barn, C16. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched, 3 bays aligned
approximately N-S, lean-to midstrey to E. Jowled posts, cambered tiebeams,
arched braces to tiebeams and arcade plates. Face-halved scarfs with one end
bladed, the other end housed (Hewett 1980, Fig. 269). Aisle ties jowled to
arcade posts, 2 raking shores to each arcade post, from aisle tie and sill
respectively. Heavy studding, curved tension braces, trenched to outside of
studs. Clasped purlin roof with curved wind braces to purlins. All rafters
original. In N bay, 4 C19 stable stalls and inserted floor. There are close
constructional similarities with an aisled barn at Bumpstead Hall. (qv)
