TL 74 SW RIDGEWELL THE CAUSEWAY
3/35 Causeway Farmhouse (formerly
21/6/62 listed under Haverhill Road
House, early C17 or earlier, altered in early C19. Timber framed, plastered,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays aligned NW-SE, aspect SW, with
axial chimney stack near middle. Crosswing of 3 bays at NW end, and single-
storey lean-to extension with slate roof in E angle. 6-panel door with top
panels glazed, 5 double-hung sash windows of 16 lights. On first floor, 4
similar windows and one single-hung sash window of 12 lights. The windows to
the SE of the door are early C19, as is that on the first floor of the
crosswing; the others are C20 reproductions. Some crown glass. The base of the
chimney stack has a dentilled cornice. There are 2 octagonal shafts with
moulded bases. Serrated ridge tiles. The rear elevation has one early C18
window of one wrought iron casement and one fixed light, both with rectangular
leaded glazing, in a gabled dormer behind the chimney stack, probably associated
with an original stair, and one C19 cast iron window of 3 lights in the end of
the crosswing. RCHM 14.
