Hall house, early C15 and C16, altered in C19 and C20, now divided into 3
cottages. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 2-bay
hall aligned approx. NW-SE, aspect SW, with one-bay integral storeyed service
end to SE. Late C16 chimney stack inserted in SE bay of hall, and inserted
floor in both bays. Late C16 parlour/solar crosswing to NW, jettied to SW,
and external chimney stack on NW wall, rebuilt c.1980. Extension to SE approx.
1 metre long, C18/19, with internal chimney stack. Rear extensions, C19/20.
Hall range of one storey with attics, crosswing of 2 storeys. No. 4 (the
crosswing), C20 boarded door, C18 4-light window (restored), ovolo-moulded
bressumer, on first floor 3 reproduction leaded windows, on attic floor one C18
window of one wrought iron casement and 2 fixed lights, with rectangular
leading. No. 2 (middle section), C20 door, one C20 sash window, and one more in
swept dormer. No. 1 (SE end), C20 boarded door, 2 C20 sash windows, on first
floor one C19 horizontally sliding sash window of 18 lights and one C20 casement
window. The interior has jowled posts and heavy studding in hall block and
crosswing. The hall retains an original rear doorway with 3-centred arched
head, and an unglazed window with 2 diamond mullions. The central tiebeam is
steeply cambered with deep arched braces. The roof is of crownpost
construction, the central crownpost of cross-quadrate section with 4 arched
braces of which 3 remain, all heavily smoke-blackened. The crosswing has
straight tension bracing trenched inside the studs. All posts and beams are
plain-chamfered with lamb's tongue stops. In the NW wall there are 2 blocked
original windows with ovolo-moulded mullions. RCHM 11.
