6/15 Great Town House

GV II

House, C16, altered in C18, extended in C20. Timber framed, partly plastered,
partly faced with red brick, Flemish bond, roofed with slate. 4 bays aligned
NE-SW, aspect NW, with internal chimney stack in second bay from SW end, and
external chimney stack at NE end. C20 2-storey extension to rear. 2 storeys.
Door with 6 fielded panels in doorcase with complex fluting on jambs and lintel,
with shallow hood on brackets. 3 double-hung sash windows of 16 lights with
flat arches of gauged brickwork on each floor, C18. Some crown glass. Facade
of red brick. Asymmetrical. Roof rebuilt to low pitch for slate. Interior
has plain-chamfored beams with step stops, and others boxed in. Large wood-
burning hearth converted to cupboards.
