Description

TL 73 NE LITTLE YELDHAM HALL GREEN
4/19 Tudor Cottage

II

House, late C16. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 3 bays aligned NE-SW
with axial chimney stack at NE end of middle bay. Small lean-to extension at
SW end. Single storey with attics. NW elevation, C20 door, 3 C20 casement
windows, 2 more in slated lean-to dormers. The interior has jowled posts, heavy
studs, clasped purlin roof with arched wind braces. All the floors are
inserted. In the NE and middle bays there are chamfered axial beams with lamb's
tongue stops and plain joists of horizontal section supported on pegged clamps
c.1600. The floor in the SW bay is similar in construction but later in the
C17, with notched stops and thinner joists. The SW end was originally half-
hipped, with mortices for an unglazed window below it, but the roof has been
carried down continuously over the extension.
