Description

TL 73 NE LITTLE YELDHAM LITTLE YELDHAM ROAD
North Side
4/15 The Old Hyde

II

Wrongly shown on OS map as The Hyde Farm. House, c.1600, altered in C18.
Timber framed, plastered, roofed with slate and handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays
aligned NE-SW, aspect SE, with central chimney stack. 2 rear wings, original
and C18, forming a rectangular plan. 2 storeys with attics. Central 4-panel
door, the upper panels glazed, in simple C18 surround with C20 tiled gabled
porch, 2-window range of C20 double-hung sashes. The front wall has been raised
approx. 1 metre in the C18 or early C19 and the front pitch of the roof slated;
the remainder is tiled. This was done without increasing the accommodation, for
the original roof structure remains in situ. The interior has chamfered beams
with lamb's tongue stops, joists of horizontal section, original rebated boards
on both floors. Inserted ceiling in the NW wing. RCHM 5.
