House, c.1500, altered in late C16, C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 2-bay hall aligned E-W, aspect S, with
integral storeyed parlour/solar bay to W, integral storeyed service bay to E.
Inserted axial chimney stack at W end of hall, late C16. Single-storey lean-to
extension to rear, C19/20. Single-storey with attics. 2 half-glazed doors,
2 C19 metal lattice windows, one C20 casement window with diamond leading.
Grouped diagonal shafts on chimney stack. The interior has jowled posts, lodged
plain joists of horizontal section in W bay, boxed axial beam in E bay, late
C16 inserted floor in hall with chamfered axial beam, and plain joists of
horizontal section supported on pegged clamps. Part of a blocked doorway with
shallow V-head is exposed in the partition between the W bay and the hall.
The roof was originally of crownpost construction, but has been converted to
clasped purlin construction. The central tiebeam of the hall is present, but
mutilated. C17/18 pargetting is exposed within the rear extension. The W bay
has been used as a bakehouse, and there is a large commercial oven to the N.
