Description

TL 72 NE GOSFIELD THE STREET (WEST SIDE)
7/190 Sparrows. (Formerly listed as
Bridge House)
21 6 62

GV II

House. C16 or earlier origin with later alterations and additions. Timber
framed and plastered with exposed framework and some painted brick. Red tiled
roof, hipped to left with forward gabled crosswing to right. Three red brick
chimney stacks, that to left external those to right with square attached
shafts. Two storeys. 3:1 window range of C20 square leaded vari-light
casements. Gabled red tiled porch with timber support posts and vertically
boarded door to left return of crosswing. Much exposed frame internally. The
main range was originally jettied to first floor and the rear crosswing probably
with a crown post roof. Now of side purlin roof structure with arched braces
to purlins. Jowled storey posts, stop chamfered beams and cambered tie beams.
Halved arch braces to some walls. Two inglenook fireplaces, one with semi-
circular arch to first floor room. There has been confusion in the past about
the original name and listing of this house. The RCHM 11 description - Bridge
House - obviously fits this house and not the present Bridge House q.v. 7/189.
