TL 72 NE GOSFIELD THE STREET (EAST SIDE)
7/191 Nos. 1 & 2 (Park Cottages)
A pair of cottages. Circa 1850-1860 for Samuel Courtauld. Red brick built
with gault brick dressings to windows, doors and chimney stacks. Plaster and
batten decoration above central band. Red plain tiled roof. Three
symmetrically placed chimney stacks to ridge and similar forward stacks right
and left of the feature gables. Three feature gables with bargeboards, finials
and timber corbels. Two storeys and attics. 3 window range of three light
iron casements with ornate glazing bars. Gauged brick arches to ground floor.
Two central plank and muntin doors. These cottages form part of the village
complex erected for Samuel Courtauld of Gosfield Hall, owner of Halstead and
Bocking weaving mills.
