TL 72 NE GOSFIELD THE STREET (EAST SIDE)
7/196 Communal Bakehouse adjacent
to right of 18 Park Cottages

GV II

Bakehouse. Circa 1875 for Samuel Courtauld. Red brick with some gault brick
dressings. Square, with hipped red tiled roof surmounted by three rows of
scalloped louvres forming a square and shingle tiles to apex. There is a
central external chimney stack with stone and gault dressings. Iron casement
windows with ornate glazing bars to right and left returns. Rear vertically
boarded door. This bake-house was built as part of the village complex to serve
the local cottages. A rare survival in an estate style.
