Cottage. Early C17, extended in early C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered
with some exposed framing, early C19 extension of red brick in Flemish bond,
both roofs of slate. 3 bays facing S with central chimney stack, one storey
with attics, with steep roof, half-hipped at right end, originally thatched.
Extension to left with chimney stack in left return wall. 2 storeys, roof of
shallow pitch. Rear lean-to extension, c.1975. 5 C20 casements on ground
floor, 3 more on first floor, of which one is in a swept dormer. C20 door.
Inscriptions 'WA 1840' and 'CA 1840' in brick front beside left window. The
interior has jowled posts, curved corner braces inside studding, not trenched,
chamfered axial beams, exposed plain joists of horizontal section, clasped
purlin roof. 2 stairs, one in each build, dating from its use as 2 cottages in
the C19. Floors apparently raised about 0.15 to 0.2 metre. Original hearths,
plastered over on left side, exposed brick on right side.
