Description

TL 72 NW GREAT SALING THE STREET
(East Side)

2/131 Stable and outbuildings
to rear of stable and
carriage house, Saling
Grove.

GV II

Stable and outbuildings block. Mid C19. Red brick with moulded brick work.
Original interlocking red tiles to roof. This building matches the forward
range in detail, with moulded parapet verges to gable ends. Buttresses to
angles. 6 bays with pilasters between. Moulded brick plinth. The left bay
has 3 rooms with top louvres to vertically boarded doors, segmental brick
arches over. Each of these rooms has a small opening to outer rear or left
return wall. The return wall has V pattern of small quatrefoil stone vents,
and similar above each door. These rooms probably pigeon or fowl houses
originally. A similar door to fourth bay. 3 windows in recessed panels and one
blocked recessed panel. To the right is a cartlodge with timber supports and to
far right a vertically boarded door. Rear wall of 12 bays with similar detail.
This building with the walls, stable and lodge q.v. 2/129 and 130 form an
unusually complete and attractive model farm complex of this date.
