TL 63 SE FINCHINGFIELD DUCK END
3/41 Brook House
House, now divided into 2 cottages. C16, altered in C20. Timber framed,
plastered, roof thatched. 3-bay main range facing NW, with 2-bay crosswing at
left end, and axial stack at the junction. C20 stack to rear of crosswing, and
thatched single-storey lean-to extension beyond. Single-storey extension behind
right end, with internal stack and roof of red clay single and double Roman
tiles. Main range of one storey with attics, crosswing of 2 storeys. 4 C20
casements, and one more in gable of crosswing. One C19 horizontally sliding
sash of 8 lights in slated swept dormer. One plain boarded door, with simple
C19 hood, one C20 door. Exposed cambered collar on gable of crosswing, with
exposed ends of clasped purlins and wallplates. The interior of the main range
has a transverse beam with step stops. The crosswing has jowled posts and a
clasped purlin roof with curved wind bracing. RCHM 30.
