House. Mid C16, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, with weatherboarding
at the gable ends, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 5 bays facing NW with a
stack in the middle bay against the front wall. C18/C19 extension at right end.
One storey with attics. 4 C20 casements on ground floor, no front windows
above, C20 door. The interior has jowled posts, exposed heavy studding with
curved braces trenched to the inside, chamfered beams, some with stop stops, and
plain joists of heavy horizontal section. In the rear wall of left end bay a
complete unglazed window with 4 diamond mullions. Original stack with large
wood-burning hearth facing left on ground floor, and on first floor a C17
inserted hearth, with mantel beam of re-used roll-moulded timber with elaborate
blind quatrefoil carving. The floor is original throughout, with 2 first-floor
framed doorways, one tiebeam severed and one removed. Original or early winder
stair in middle bay. Clasped purlin roof. RCHM 44.
