FINCHINGFIELD
MILL ROAD (west side)
Mill Cottage immediately east of Mill House

II
Cottage possibly former brew house or agricultural building C18 or earlier. Timber-framed, plaster above weatherboarded plinth. Hand made clay plain tile roof with half round ridge tiles to hips. Remnant of brick stack on south elevation. Square plan C20 casements window to ground floor. Gabled dormer on east side with side hung casement to attic. Hipped roof with central finial.

Interior: large chamfered cross beam with runout stops and unchamfered joists. Later partition creating rear (west) room from which rises winder stairs to attic. First floor also partitioned and roof ceiled but wall plate exposed.

The site is presumably one of the seven mill sites in Finchingfield parish and this building may have been an ancillary to the former mill and house.
