House. Early C16, altered in late C16. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. 2-bay main range facing NE, 3-bay crosswing to left,
and internal stack at the junction. Stair tower in W angle. Small C20 lean-to
extensions to right of hall range and to rear of crosswing. Main range of one
storey with attic, crosswing of 2 storeys. 4 C20 casements on ground floor, one
on first floor. Crosswing jettied at front, plastered except for 2 exposed
beams. C20 door behind right extension. One flue at front of stack cement
rendered, possibly from former oven or boiler. The main range has chamfered
joists of horizontal section with step stops, jointed to chamfered binding beam
with soffit tenons with diminished haunches. All joists to left of binding beam
severed. Large hearth, blocked. Roof rebuilt in softwood. The crosswing has
some studding exposed internally, a chamfered binding beam with lamb's tongue
stops, plain joists of horizontal section, jowled posts, and a large hearth
reduced for a C20 grate. Diamond mortices for unglazed window in rear wall.
Original studded partition on first floor between middle and rear bay. Cambered
tiebeam with peg for crownpost, but roof converted to clasped purlin form.
Original floorboards. Moated site. RCHM 3.
