TL 71 SE TERLING

5/104 Barn approx. 5 metres
south-east of Ringers
Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. C.1600, extended in C18 and C19. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed
with handmade red clay tiles. 5 bays aligned E-W, with midstrey to N. Extended
to E by 2 bays in C18, and extended to W by 2 bays in early C19, these
extensions rooted with red clay 'Roman' tiles. Lean-to extensions to E, and to
W of midstrey, the latter roofed with slate. Roof hipped at both ends. The
original barn has jowled posts, arched braces trenched inside heavy studding,
and face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates. Arched braces to the
tiebeams have been replaced by bolted knees. Clasped purlin roof with arched
wind-bracing. Great doors to the S blocked. The extensions have unjowled posts
and primary straight bracing.
